Saxon Club recognizes scholarship recipients

The Salem Saxon Club recognized its 2017 scholarship recipients at its annual summer social July 14.

Scholarships awarded by the Salem Saxon Club men’s and women’s lodges at $700 each went to Ashleigh Best of Leetonia, Isabella Campson of West Branch, Courtney Crawford of Marlington, Mariah Grate of United and Corey Griffith of Salem (Carole Flick Memorial Scholarship recipient). The scholarships are awarded based on service to school and community, dedication to county, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons scholarship recipients include Cameron Schmid of Powell, Ohio (Donzella Harman Scholarship) and Ashleigh Best of Leetonia ($1,000 Davidson-Schuller Appreciation Scholarship).

The Salem Saxon Club has awarded over $140,000 the past 32 years.

Officers include Henry Spack, Men’s Lodge 18 president; Florence Spack, Women’s Lodge 19 president; Sam McKinney, scholarship trust fund president; Art Maroscher, treasurer; Hilda Spack, vice president; Barbara Spack, secretary; and Geoff Goll, legal advisor.
