St. Jude Church to host several upcoming events

COLUMBIANA — Area residents are invited to several events planned at St. Jude Church, 180 Seventh St.

The annual pet blessing begins at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 1 on church grounds.

Octoberfest at St. Jude’s is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 14. The popular event features a German buffet, desserts and unique seasonal beers. Music will be provided by the Saxon Club Band. Child care is available.

Salem Music Study Club

to open season Sept. 27

SALEM — The Salem Music Study Club, which is affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs, will host its opening meeting in observance of its 93rd season, at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Educational Building beside the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The first meeting is where the dues increase for members to $24. A business session follows by a program, “A Fun Singalong of the Decades” by Ruth Newman and Anna Anderson. Guests are welcome and refreshments will be served.

Salem Masons to host spaghetti dinner

SALEM — The public is welcome to a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. The meal includes salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Cost is $6 per person. The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator.

Auditions for Eva Schloss offered by appointment

YOUNGSTOWN — J&B Production Arts Services will be holding open auditions for the role of Eva Schloss, stepsister and childhood friend of Anne Frank. This role is for the powerful and moving one-woman show, “Images: Remembrances of the Holocaust – The Eva Schloss Story.” The show is touring on a sporadic basis and these auditions are for an actress to alternate performances with the current actress with the possibility of moving up to the main actress at a later date. R-Weigh group honors weekly weight loss

SALEM — Linda Lude offered the inspirational, “Hearts Gifts” by Helen Steiner Rice when 25 members of R-Weigh met on Sept. 18 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. Rosemarie Martinez presided.

Good loser in Group One was Lois Wood. Group Two winners were Paula Barton, best loser; Judy Smith, runner up; and Susan Cain and Vicki Knizat, honorable mention. Calorie chart winners were Judy Smith, Wood, Cain and Barton. Goalie calorie chart winners were Rita Cecil and Patty Hartman. Wood and Donna Greenamyer were the winners in the regular Can Do Contest. The goalie winners were Patty Hartman and Rita Cecil.

The Oaks won this week’s contest with Judy Smith, Patty Pim, Lude and Nancy Stryffler and Birdie Reinhart. Reinhart discussed the Christmas party. Members are to bring gifts priced between $3 and $4 to be used as bingo prizes.

New members are welcome to meetings at 6 p.m. Mondays at the church. Weigh-ins are held from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.
