Haunted House meeting planned

SALEM–All Salem area Jaycees with experience designing, building and participating in Jaycee haunted houses over the years are needed for a benefit Haunted House to be held in Salem before Halloween.

There will be an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway Ave. All Jaycees with knowledge of haunting houses are urged to participate in the brainstorming session. The proposed time and dates of the new Haunted House will be 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 20, 21, 27 and 28. Closing hours could be extended for large crowds.

The Salem Federation of Women’s Clubs is a 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit organization. The Ruth Smucker House is home to the Federation and The Salem Book Club, The Salem Herb Guild, Salem Bridge Club and Salem Preservation. It was left to the “women of Salem” in the early 1950’s by Ruth Smucker, wife of Dr. Smucker, and served as their home and his doctor office for many years.

The benefit is being held to help defray annual costs of running the building. The original Federation Clubs are looking for new ways to increase their revenue. Operating costs continue to increase and dues and other income resources are not able to keep up. The Federation welcomes new member clubs.
