For the 10th consecutive year, the Salem Self Pro Martial Arts Club raised money for this year’s community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23 in the second-floor Red Room at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The club, which meets at Boneshakers banquet center, presented $865 to dinner coordinators Nancy Miller and Jeff Schoch. At the presentation Thursday were, first row, from left, Leah Wilson, Scott Barbee, Parker Mehno, Sean Hoffman; second row, Miller, Sarah Barbee, Skyler Earl, Ethan Tausch; third row, Mike Viola, club owner; Brandan Craig, Marc Staton and Kirk Hartzell. Missing from the photo were Jessica Hartzell, Landrey Knizat and Derek Barbee. Students raised money by having sponsors donate amounts for each kick they made during the Nov. 9 kick-a-thon. They recorded a total of 7,444 kicks. The dinner is free to anybody who has no plans for the holiday. Call 330-337-3728 for home delivery or transportation. Residents or businesses wishing to donate turkey, stuffing or pies are asked to call or drop off donations at the Memorial Building next week. Frozen turkeys will be accepted until Monday. Other major sponsors of the dinner include Salem Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 88 that donated $900; Annabell’s Restaurant that donates turkey, stuffing and gravy; and the Memorial Building, which donates the space and fields phone calls.
