West Branch holds Veterans Day ceremony

The annual Veterans Day ceremony recently held at West Branch Middle School included a special talk and recognition given by West Branch’s own retired Air Force Captain Roger Sharp. Along with his speech, the band played special patriotic songs and several students sang “The Star Spangled Banner,” as well as “God Bless America.” Sharp is currently a teacher at the high school. During the ceremony, several student council members explained the “White Table” ceremony to fellow students. According to Wikipedia, “The Missing Man Table, also known as the Fallen Comrade Table, is a place of honor, set up in military dining facilities of the U.S. armed forces and during occasions such as service branch birthday balls, in memory of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members. The table serves as the focal point of ceremonial remembrance, originally growing out of U.S. concern of the Vietnam War (Submitted photo)
