Christmas cantata set at First Presbyterian Church

SALEM — The First Presbyterian Church at 436 E. Second St. will present “Winter’s Grace,” a cantata for Christmas, by Joseph M. Martin, as part of worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

“Winter’s Grace” is a collection of Advent and Christmas music presented by the Haviland Choir. “Winter’s Grace” is accompanied by a small Chamber Ensemble, including flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpets, horn, trombones, tuba, piano and percussion. Soloists for the cantata are Jayne Bricker and Mike Newman. Brad Stephens and the Rev. Meta S. Cramer will provide narrative readings for the musical portion of the service.

Nancy McNeal, church organist, will accompany the choir and solo instruments. Director of music at First Presbyterian is John Krauss. This special service is open to the public. Following the service a ticket auction will take place in the fellowship hall. Themes for the auction baskets include: Candy, Family Fun Night, A Night Out in Salem, Hot Beverage, Chocolate, Gingerbread and Ohio State. Proceeds from the auction, sponsored by the Presbyterian Women, will benefit local charities.
