Kiwanis Antique and Craft Show set Saturday

SALEM– The 54th annual Kiwanis Antique and Craft Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park on the corner of East Pershing Street and Park Avenue. Admission is free to the public. This year’s show will feature food vendors, music and more than 50 auction items and baskets to be raffled. This is one of Ohio’s largest antique and craft shows.

Banquet in Salem to feature fried chicken

SALEM — The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The meal will be sponsored in memory of Vic Mattevi. The menu offers fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, fresh fruits and vegetable and ice cream sundaes. Additional sponsors are needed. Kids Fun and Safety Day set in North Lima

BEAVER TWP, — Beaver Township Safety Forces will host an open house and Kids Fun and Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Beaver Township Safety Building, 601 W. South Range Road, North Lima.

Free food will be available including hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones, chips, cookies and beverages.

Activities include meeting real life emergency medical technicians, firefighters and police, members of the Beaver Township Fire Department and Beaver Township Police Department, fire trucks, ambulances and police cars will be on display for viewing, safety tips, coloring contest, first aid tips, blood pressure checks, Life Flight helicopter (scheduling and weather permitting), Jaws of Life demonstration, smoke room demonstration, fire safety lessons, hands on fire extinguisher training and photo opportunities. One free smoke detector will be given to all Beaver Township residents.

Crestview BOE to meet on levy proposal

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Local Board of Education’s special meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. July 25 in the high school cafeteria, 44100 Crestview Road. Board members will approve a resolution determining to proceed with submitting to the electors of the school district the single question of the issuance of school improvement bonds in the aggregate principal amount of $5,200,000 and the levy of an additional 0.5-mill tax to provide funds for the acquisition, construction enlargement, renovation, and financing of general permanent improvements, pursuant to section 5705.218 of the revised code.

Community Center sets Guilford Lake triathlon

SALEM — The Salem Community Center will launch its inaugural “Guilford Lake Triathlon” at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Guilford Lake Beach area. The event will offer a full sprint triathlon, duathlon, aqua/bike and sprint relay. Register online at runsignup.com.

Abundant Life Fellowship plans August Overflow

NEW WATERFORD – For the 10th consecutive year, Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will distribute school supplies, clothing, fresh produce, serve grill food and offer bounce houses and barrel train rides during August Overflow from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 4. The American Red Cross will also conduct a blood drive.

The school supply distribution is specifically for students in Crestview, Columbiana (including Heartland Christian), Leetonia, East Palestine, Lisbon, Beaver Local districts, and to home-schooled students in those districts and members of the five churches in the Crestview district. To receive school supplies, recipients must bring a report card from the previous school year and/or a driver’s license or document showing proof of residency in one of those districts. They are distributed on a first-come, first served basis, and there is no pre-registration.

Grill food and other side dishes will be provided by the church. Fresh produce is coming from Second Harvest Food Bank. Also provided throughout the day will be prayer for anybody needing ministry for specific needs.

Donations of good, clean children’s clothing and school supplies will be accepted at the church or office now through Aug. 1. The office is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Agency sponsors for August Overflow include the Columbiana Community Foundation, The Way Station and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Corporate sponsors are NDC Heating and Cooling of New Waterford; Family Care Services of Columbiana, Leetonia and East Palestine; Walmart and Little Red Hen Antiques and Collectibles of Salem; Linsley-Royal Funeral Home and Sparkle Market of East Palestine; Bayda Automotive of New Waterford; Walgreens of Salem, Boardman and Austintown. Any company wanting to sponsor the event is asked to send a check with a logo or business card to the church. All donations are tax-deductible. Personal donations also are welcome. Bus tour to visit 3 sites related to President Garfield

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society (MVHS) is hosting a bus tour on Aug. 11 to three sites related to United States President James A. Garfield. “History to Go: Garfield! Garfield! Garfield!” will be explore all sites pertaining to the 20th U. S. President and Ohio native, James A. Garfield. Gain special insight into Garfield within the context of 19th century NE Ohio through tours of three historic sites: the President Garfield Birthplace Cabin, the James A. Garfield Memorial at Lakeview Cemetery, and the James A. Garfield National Historic Site. MVHS Director Bill Lawson will also provide a presentation focused on Garfield’s ties to the Valley. A boxed lunch from Tommy’s in Cleveland rounds out the tour.

Cost is $65 for MVHS members and $75 for non-members and includes luxury motor coach transportation from the Tyler History Center, admission to all sites and lunch. United student registration planned Aug. 1-2

HANOVERTON — United Local Schools will hold new student registration for the 2018-19 school year on Aug. 1 and 2. New student registration packets can be picked up in the administrative office or found on the school website at united.k12.oh.us beginning July 23. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten. For more information contact Ann Peters at 330-223-2831.

When you register your child(ren), parents must bring their child(ren)’s birth certificate, Social Security number, immunization records, two proofs of residency and any current custody documents, if applicable.
