Salem Kiwanis Club meets at noon Thursday

SALEM — The Salem Kiwanis Club meeting begins at noon Thursday at the Salem Community Center.

Salem Farmers Market changes location

SALEM — Due to the current work project to repair the concrete on East State Street, the Salem Farmers Market has changed its location from the Masonic Building parking lot at 788 E. State St. The market now will be open from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Aug. 9 and 16, at the Timberlanes Municipal Lot along East Pershing Street, across from Boneshakers restaurant. Plenty of free and easy access parking is available at the Timberlanes lot.

Among the vendors at this year’s farmers market are NewMe’s Pies, Arika Jean’s Farm and Cottage (artisan jams and farm crafts), Spencer Meats, Spencer Farms, Jack’s Mountain Orchards, James Natural Products, Sara (cupcakes and baked goods), Supreme Coffee Roasters, American Flower Farm, Muddy Boot Creations (homemade goodies from crafts, baked goods and soup mixes), Garrett’s Garden Life (produce, jams and baked goods) and Esther (produce). Fun Day Back to School event set at United

HANOVERTON — Everyone is invited to enjoy games, prizes and entertainment with students receiving school supplies, clothing and hair cuts during the Fun Day Back to School event from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at United Local Schools. The United Local cheerleaders and the school nurse are sponsoring this event along with many supporters including Best Cuts, Winona Frozen Foods and Shivers Dentistry.

Pancake and sausage breakfast offered at Smith Grange

BELOIT — The public is invited to a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at Smith Grange, 11090 Beloit-Snodes Road, Beloit. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for ages 5 to 12. Proceeds are used for operating costs and community services.

Columbiana High class schedules ready

COLUMBIANA — Students at Columbiana High School may pick up their 2018-19 class schedules according to the following timetable: Seniors, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 14; Juniors, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 15; and Sophomores, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 16.

Freshmen and new student orientation at Columbiana High School will be held from 5 to 7 pm. Aug. 16. Students and their parents will meet in the high school auditorium at 5 p.m. where they will be introduced to the high school principals and guidance counselor. Students will receive their schedules and go on a tour of the school. Members of the high school student organizations will be on hand in the commons to answer questions about their organizations.

Community breakfast set at Damascus church

DAMASCUS — Damascus United Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will host the monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at the Damascus church at 300 Valley Road. The all-you-can-eat, made to order meal includes, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the upcoming 2019 summer mission trip.

Salem 1954 to hold reunion planning meeting

Cancer support group meeting set at St. Jude

COLUMBIANA — A cancer support group meeting is forming at St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana. The meetings are open to cancer patients and survivors and their caregivers. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month, however, no meeting will be held in August. The first meeting is Sept. 27.
