Fundraiser for Trisha Suits set at Salem East Healthcare

SALEM — A fundraiser featuring lunch and raffle basket drawings benefiting Trisha Suits will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem East Healthcare Center, 230 Continental Drive. The public is invited to purchase a “grab and go picnic lunch” which contains grilled hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni/potato salad, dessert and beverage. Cost is $5. Proceeds from the event will benefit Suits, a 30-year-old mother battling Acute-Myeloid Leukemia which she has been fighting since birth. She was born premature and legally blind. She has undergone a stem cell transplant and leaves her home in Lisbon for chemo treatment at the Cleveland Clinic. For information concerning the event call Jessica Szelazek 216-379-1234.

Fourth Thursday Banquet to feature penne with meatballs

SALEM — The Fourth Thursday Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. This meal will be sponsored by Friends of the Banquet and includes penne pasta with meatballs, salad, green beans, fresh vegetables and fruits and ice cream sundaes. Prayer for upcoming school year planned at United

HANOVERTON — Following the open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at United Local Schools, the community will gather to pray for the upcoming school year. Prayer will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the flag pole.

Dance set at Salem Italian American Club

SALEM — Area residents are invited to a dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Italian American Club, 250 Penn Ave. Music will be provided by Damaged Goods.

Tractor Supply to host pet adoption day

SALEM — Tractor Supply Company at 2366 E. State St. is hosting pet adoptions, a pet supplies drive and more on Saturday as part of the “Out Here With Animals” monthlong event. The public is invited to bring their leashed, friendly animals, including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, etc., to the store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Our team members believe that animals of all kinds are worth celebrating,” said Brian Beight, manager of Salem Tractor Supply. “Out Here With Animals allows us to do just that by providing us with opportunities to do our part in supporting local animal rescue groups.” Participating local organizations on site from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. include Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary and Luketic Canine.

Additionally, customers can support the local animal shelter community by participating in Tractor Supply’s pet supplies drive which is accepting new sealed food, toys, cleaning supplies and other essential pet accessories such as beds, scratching posts, leashes and bowls to be donated to the Salem rescues and shelters.

“Buddy Walk of the Valley” planned Sept. 23

NILES — The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley’s 11th annual “Buddy Walk of the Valley” begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Eastwood Field, 111 Eastwood Mall Blvd., Niles. Gates open at 11 a.m. Register by Sept. 5 to be guaranteed a 2018 event T-shirt. Individuals with Down Syndrome who register for the walk will receive a 2018 Buddy Walk Medal and a Buddy Bag the day of the event.
