Perry trustees to hold work session

PERRY TWP. — The township trustees will hold a work session regarding the 2019 budget at 3 p.m. Monday at the administration building, 2198 N. Ellsworth Ave, instead of holding the session at the fiscal officer’s office. The next regular meeting of the trustees will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the administration building.

Spaghetti dinner benefit set at Slovak Club

SALEM — The public is invited to a spaghetti dinner benefit for Bill Smith to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Slovak Club, 313 S. Ellsworth Ave. There also will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for Smith’s final expenses. For more information call 330-337-8067.

Alchemy Acres hosts tours Whispering Pines Castle

ROGERS — Alchemy Acres will host tours of the festively decorated Whispering Pines Castle, the centerpiece of Alchemy Acres’ future home, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 8, 9 and 16. Ellen Speicher, horticulture expert, will give a presentation today on “Holiday Plants.” Live music provided by Steve Free starts at 2:30 p.m. “Selfies with Santa” are available from 3 to 6 p.m. Light refreshments and beverages will be served at all tours. A Santa’s Workshop will feature a selection of holiday gifts. Admission is $10 per person to benefit the animals at Alchemy Acres. The castle is located at 6295 Adams Road.

Tickets offered for “Polar Express” event

SALEM — Brenda Hamilton, an anti-drug advocate with Ohio CAN, has announced that a limited number of tickets are available for the “All Aboard the Polar Express” event from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. This free event is open to all children in Columbiana County. Santa will visit and the “Polar Express” movie will be played. Children are reminded to wear their pajamas and must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Reservations are required by calling Hamilton at 330-277-9625. The event also includes pizza, cookies, hot chocolate and a special gift.

Dulci-More to perform at Parkinson’s Support Group

SALEM — Music will be provided by Dulci-More when the Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Education Building, 251 S. Broadway Ave. A Christmas skit, readings and carol singing is planned.

Cast of “Annie” to perform at Historical Society meeting

SALEM — Members of the Salem Community Theatre will perform selections from their current production, “Annie” and have a carol sing-a-long when the Salem Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Dale Shaffer Library’s meeting room. 239 S. Lundy Ave. A brief meeting and installation of the 2019 trustees precedes. The 2019 Salem Historical calendars which features the theme of “Made in Salem” are available in the gift shop. The public is welcome to attend. Members are encouraged to bring a favorite Christmas cookie or dessert to share. For more information call 330-337-8514.

SRMC walkway closed for renovations Dec. 11-17

SALEM — Salem Regional Medical Center’s (SRMC) elevated walkway over East State Street will be temporarily closed for renovation from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Dec. 17. The walkway connects SRMC with the Salem Regional Professional Building. During the walkway’s closure, patients and visitors to the hospital are encouraged to park on the hospital-side of East State Street in the parking deck or the outdoor lots closest to the hospital.

Questions regarding the walkway’s closure may be directed to the hospital’s public relations department at 330-332-7227, during normal business hours.

Salem Schools Finance Committee to meet

SALEM — The Salem City Schools Finance Committee meeting begins at noon Wednesday in the Administration Office.

Village Singers to perform “Almost Christmas”

LISBON — The Village Singers, under the direction of Peggy Elliott, will present the concert “Almost Christmas” at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St. A cookie reception will be held at intermission. A freewill offering will be taken.

Mile Branch Grange holds drive-thru soup sale

ALLIANCE — Mile Branch Grange will hold its monthly drive-thru soup sale on Dec. 13 at 495 Knox School Road.This month’s soups are loaded baked potato and stuffed pepper. Cost is $6 per quart. Soup must be preordered by noon Dec. 12 by calling 330-821-8023; leave your name, phone number, type of soup and number of quarts. Soup will be available for pick up from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 13.

Saxon Club sets Joint Social/Children’s Christmas Party

SALEM — The Salem Saxon Club will hold its Joint Social/Children’s Christmas Party for members’ children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Dec. 15 at the club. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Those attending are to bring their table setting and a coverdish. The meat will be provided. Members are asked to leave a message or text Terri Spack at 330-831-4119 before Dec. 12 with the number and ages of children planning to attend. There will also be a clown and crafts for the children.

Book discussion group to meet at Salem Library

SALEM — Salem Public Library’s Book Discussion Group plans to meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 to discuss Agatha Christie’s murder mystery book, “The ABC Murders.” Meetings are held in the adult reading room on the upper level of the library. “Blue Christmas” service set Dec. 16 in North Lima

NORTH LIMA — A “Blue Christmas” service begins at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 12030 Market St. A Blue Christmas service includes an emphasis on candles, with people invited to come forward and light a candle in memory of someone or to mark an event in their lives. Unfortunately, grief, illness, aging, depression, loneliness, unemployment and loss are magnified for some during the holiday season.

Blood drive planned Dec. 28 at Community Center

SALEM — Salem Regional Medical Center and the Salem Community Center (SCC) are co-sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. Dec. 28 at the SCC. The drive is a “power red” donation site, which means that individuals meeting certain criteria may elect to give two units of red blood cells at one time. Donors will receive a free day pass to the SCC. For an appointment call 800-RED-CROSS. Walk-ins are welcome.
