Local youth wins ag pageant

Callie Koons, 8, of Salem, was recently named the 2019 Columbiana County Petite Miss Agriculture USA Queen. Miss Agriculture USA is a new non-profit agriculture promotion organization featuring Queens of all ages that promote, celebrate and educate about all the diverse aspects of agriculture. Callie is the daughter of Harold and Jennifer Koons of Salem and granddaughter of Charles and Angela Graham of Atwater and the late Harold Koons. She attends United Local Elementary School. Her agricultural interests include beef cows, market hogs, pet goats, and she would raise chickens if her parents would let her. She is a four-year member of Just Rite 4-H Club and was recently elected as the club’s vice president. Callie plans to show a dairy beef feeder, a market hog, and her pet turtle, Pancake, at the 2019 Columbiana County Fair. Callie will be competing for the state queen title in April, with the opportunity to continue on to the National Miss Agriculture USA Queen competition that will be held in Ohio on June 29, 2019.
