WBMS eighth grader wins spelling bee — again!

Eighth grader Allison Zion won the recent West Branch Spelling Bee. It was her second straight win. Thirty-two students in grades 5-8 participated over five rounds. Zion’s winning word was “‘armada.” West Branch Middle School principal Stephen Fowler served as the pronouncer. Serving as judges were Susan Baldwin, seventh grade language arts teacher; Wendy Beal, speech and language specialist; and Leighann Martin, 5th grade Intervention specialist. Zion will be representing WBMS in the Vindicator Spelling Bee hosted by the Youngstown State University in February. She is shown above with Fowler and Cari Conaway, fifth grade teacher and Spelling Bee coordinator. (Submitted photo)
