Salem school board to meet Tuesday

SALEM — The Salem Board of Education’s special board meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the library at Salem High School to review board goals.

Board members will meet for a regular meeting immediately following the organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the library. The board will go into executive session for the purpose of employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee or official, or the investigation of charges against an employee or official or regulated individual unless the employee, official or regulated individual requests a public hearing. No action will be taken.

Columbiana County Democrats to meet

LISBON — The Columbiana County Democrat Party meeting begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in the media room at the Columbiana County Career Center.

‘Art of Bread’ topic at Salem Library

SALEM — The “Play With Your Food” series will continue with “The Art of Bread” to be presented by Chef J. R. Straley at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library. Straley is the instructor of the Culinary Arts Program at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center in Lisbon. Assisting Chef Straley with the presentation will be several of his students.

Samples of homemade butter and jam will be included in a taste testing. Registration is required for this free program which is open to the public. Register at salem.lib.oh.us or 330-332-0042.

Tickets to Fat Tuesday event still offered

SALEM — Tickets are still available for the Salem Community Center, Salem Rotary Club and Salem Kiwanis Club’s Feed the Salem Community Pantry Fat Tuesday fundraiser. The public is invited to the event to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. March 5 at the community center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave.

Tickets are available at the community center, or from a Rotary or Kiwanis member. All proceeds will benefit the Salem Community Pantry.

Those interested in being a celebrity chef must reserve a table by Feb. 25. Chefs are asked to provide their own warming device (non-electric) and server for the table. If unable to provide a server, one can be arranged. A sign with your name, or the name of your business, will be provided by the organization and displayed on each table. Book sale planned at Columbiana Library

COLUMBIANA –Friends of the Columbiana Public Library are hosting a spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 23 at the library. Bag of books for $3 will be sold beginning at 4 p.m. The pre-sale for Friends of the Columbiana Public Library is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 22. Friends’ membership is $3 per person or $5 per family.

Dairy Booster Scholarship offered

LISBON — Applications for the Columbiana County Buckeye Dairy Booster Scholarship are being accepted for one to two scholarships for Columbiana County Dairy Industry family members attending an institution of higher learning. The $1,000 scholarships are to be applied toward tuition, books, housing, etc.

The applicant must be a member of a Columbiana County family whose primary occupation is directly involved in the dairy industry. Students must prove enrollment, or submit a letter of admission, to a two or four-year institution of higher learning or graduate school.

Those applying are not required to limit their educational choice to an agricultural related field. Students must be considered a full-time student and maintain at least a B or 3.0 grade point average. Previous scholarship recipients may not reapply.
