Columbiana student knows his place in the world

John Rhodes is this year’s Geography Bee winner at Columbiana Middle School. He also won the geography bee last school year. Geography is the subject the eighth-grade student is passionate about. His interest to learn as much about geography as he can helped him defend his title as champion. “It’s just kind of been my thing for the past two years,” said Rhodes. “Geography has just attracted me because it’s interesting to learn all this kind of stuff, and it’s useful in the real world, which I think is very important.” He plans on taking the qualifying test for the state geography bee which will be held in the spring. If he ranks in the top 100, he will compete in the state bee for the second year in a row. (Submitted photo)
