Military group hosts announcer

Ltc. John T. Caparanis, a well-known local radio and TV sports announcer and a member of the Mahoning and Shenango Valley’s Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, spoke at the monthly luncheon meeting at the Consolidated Activities Center of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna. Caparanis, whose broadcasting career spans over 50 years, received his Army commission in 1968 and served as a Signal Officer in Vietnam. He joined the Army Reserves in 1971 and served in the 660th Transportation Co. in Cadiz, 2077th USAR School in Cleveland, the 1036 USAR School in Farrell, Pa., and the 475th QM Group in Farrell until he retired from the Reserves in 1995.
