The Executive Director of the USO of Northern Ohio (USONO), Bruce Bille, a Howland resident, was the guest speaker at a recent luncheon meeting of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MSVC-MOAA) held at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS) Consolidated Activities Center (CAC) in Vienna. A former lieutenant in the Navy and a graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., Bille worked for General Dynamics as a research analyst and then as an executive recruiter for industry before becoming the USONO’s Executive Director in 2017.

Bille helped to establish the USO Lounge at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS) in Vienna, which has the distinction of being the first and only USO facility established at any Air Reserve Station in the country.

Bille is a member of the MSVC-MOAA and serves as the Chapter treasurer. The USONO covers the 31 northern most counties in Ohio and services are provided at seven different locations including two in Trumbull County. These include: MEPS in Cleveland, Cleveland Hopkins Airport, USO Toledo, USO Camp Garfield (formerly known as Camp Ravenna), USO YARS, and two care package distribution centers in West Geauga and in Howland.

The next Chapter meeting will be held at noon on Friday March 22 at the YARS CAC. Guest speaker will be Ralph Pfingsten, author of “The History of the Ravenna Arsenal.” For reservations to attend the meeting or to read the monthly newsletter, go to or contact Janet Oglesby at 330-568-4456.
