Home Economics scholarship offered

LISBON–A $200 scholarship is available for a college junior or senior majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences or Home Economics or a related field such as dietetics, nutrition, child development, housing, culinary arts or interior design. A student who has completed half of a two-year program in this field or completing post graduate work may also apply.

The Columbiana County Association of Family and Consumer Sciences is offering this scholarship to students residing in Columbiana County or a bordering county (Mahoning, Jefferson, Stark or Carroll).

The application deadline is July 15, 2019 and may be obtained from Diana Nordquest, 399 Shelton Road, Salem OH 44460, or nordquest_diana@yahoo.com.

Genealogy program focuses on estates

SALEM– “Estate Planning Genealogy Style” is the topic for the genealogy program scheduled 6:30 p.m. April 22 in Salem Public Library’s Quaker Meeting room. The speaker will be Marge Greenisen, a skilled and knowledgeable amateur genealogist.

During the program Greenisen will provide information about the options available to people who have researched and recorded their family tree to preserve the information when they are no longer to care of their collection.

The program is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Registration is required and may be done online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or by calling 330-332-0042 for registration assistance.

‘Allergy free’ Easter egg hunt planned

KNOX TWP. –Mile Branch Grange, 495 Knox School Road, Alliance, is sponsoring its third “Allergy Free” Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Mile Branch Grange members are hosting this event to provide a safe environment for children with food allergies or other health issues, who often miss traditional egg hunts to protect the child from possible reactions. There will be a special area for children who need a quieter, calmer environment.

There will be four age groups for children ages 0 to 14. Children need to bring their own basket or bag. The Easter Bunny will be available for photos with personal cameras. There will be no candy or food at the event. Eggs will contain small toys, stickers, coins, etc. There will be special eggs for larger prizes. All children are welcome to attend. Door prizes will be awarded to parents. The event will held rain or shine, under roof if necessary.

DAHS 1969 to host covered dish lunch

LISBON–David Anderson High School Class of 1969 will hold a covered dish lunch at 1 p.m. May 18 at Jim Crosser’s Guilford Lake cottage to finalize plans for the class’s 50-year reunion to be held in conjunction with the Lisbon Alumni Association All Class reunion July 6 and 7.

Reservations for the class luncheon to be held at St. George’s Hall, after the parade July 6, will be due. The buffet luncheon will be provided by the Altar and Rosary Society of St. George’s. All classmates and their guest are invited to attend both lunches.

Banquet in Salem to feature beef tips

SALEM– Anonymous Sisters will sponsor the Banquet in Salem from 5 to 7 p.m. April 22 at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include beef tips, mashed potatoes or noodles, California medley, Jello salad, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and ice cream. For information contact Patty Colian at 330-831-2169.

Community Sunrise Service set in Sebring

SEBRING–Sebring Friends Church, 615 S. Johnson Road, will host a Community Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. Easter Sunday. to celebrate The Risen Savior.

The service is coordinated by the Sebring Association of Churches and is being held in the Old Meeting House originally built in 1829 so those attending are advised to dress appropriately for the early hour as modern heating is absent. The service will remind those attending of a time gone by but the same Jesus. Pastor Marty Radcliff from Sebring Presbyterian will be bringing the message with Pastor Quint Bryan. Open house planned at Beaver Creek

EAST LIVERPOOL–The Volunteers Association for the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center and Natural History Museum is hosting the annual Spring Fundraising Open House from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 27.

Attendees will enjoy hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, wine and cheese selections and a variety of chocolate desserts while touring the Wildlife Center facility. Several new animals and an additional habitat area are now featured in the beautiful North American Room, which celebrated its grand opening at the 2018 Wine and Wildlife event. Other display rooms have been updated including the library. This room will now house a series of informative displays, which will change at the beginning of each month of the center’s season from May until October. Guests at the event will be able to view all the display rooms, exhibits, stunning scenic backgrounds and outdoor garden areas at the center while they learn about the many programs scheduled for this coming season, prior the public opening on May 4. The evening’s activities will also include a Chinese auctions, raffles and a special award presentation.

April RTIP meeting canceled

MINERVA–The Governing Board of the Carroll, Columbiana, and Stark Regional Transportation Improvement Project (RTIP) April meeting has been canceled.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at 9 a.m. May 17 in the Community Room at the Minerva Public Library, 677 Lynnwood Drive.

Living stations set at Our Lady of Lourdes

EAST PALESTINE– Living Stations will be held at 3 p.m. Good Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes, 210 E. Main St. The Easter schedule at St. Jude Church, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana, and Our Lady of Lourdes include the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. tonight at Our Lady of Lourdes; Living Stations at 3 p.m. and Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 7 p.m., both Good Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes; Easter Vigil in the Holy Night Mass at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Jude; Easter Sunday Mass at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes and 11:30 a.m. at St. Jude.

Columbiana man in YSU production

YOUNGSTOWN–Ben Cross of Columbiana takes to the stage in Youngstown State University Theater’s production of “Into the Woods,” Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical. Cross, a Music Education Instrumental major, is performing the role of Musician – French horn in the show.

Salem pharmacist elected trustee

SALEM–The Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) has announced that Courtney Myers, R.Ph., PharmD of Salem, was installed as trustee representing District 14 at its 141st Annual Conference held April 12 to 14 in Columbus.

Myers earned her PharmD degree at the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy where she minored in public health. She is a pharmacist consultant for Absolute Health Services in North Canton.

OPA, established in 1879, represents more than 4,000 pharmacists, pharmacy educators and pharmacy students throughout the state.
