WBMS students perform at Solo and Ensemble

BELOIT — The seventh- and eighth-grade West Branch Middle School Band and Vocal Music students participated in 16 different events and received a 11 “Superior” (I) ratings and five “Excellent” (II) ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association’s Solo and Ensemble Contest March 30 at Struthers High School.

This year, a “Superior” rating was awarded to all of the WBMS instrumental ensembles. Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Clarinet Trios, eighth-grade Flute Trio, eighth-grade Saxophone Trio and the Woodwind Quintet all earned a top mark.

The “Superior” ranking band soloist awards were presented to Croesus Fu on flute, Grace Vence and Ally Zion on Clarinet, Abbi Taylor on Alto Saxophone and Kale Davis and Hayden Detwiler on Trumpet.

The “Excellent” ranking band soloist were Ally Hartzell on Flute, Ella Scofinsky on Oboe, Ally Zion on Bassoon, Lakira Beeson on Alto Saxophone, and Emma Kosenski on French Horn.

The “Superior” ranking vocal soloist awards were presented to Brooklyn Horner, Haley Close, Ella Scofinsky and Croesus Brock.

The “Excellent” ranking vocal soloist were Madison Wike, Lauren Lee, Autumn Johnston, Elyse Schmitt, Andrea Janosik, Charity Rastetter, Ally Zion and the WBMS eighth-grade Girls Vocal Ensemble.
