Salem’s annual water quality report available

SALEM — The Salem Utilities Department announced Thursday that a copy of the 2018 Annual Water Quality Report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), has been uploaded to http://www.cityofsalemohio.org/utilities/Salem-CCR-2018.pdf.

Customers also may call the billing office at 330-337-8723 to have a paper copy of the CCR mailed to them. By utilizing this environmentally-friendly method of delivery via the city website, the department is able to save money by controlling production and mailing costs. Public Employee Retirees to meet at Avion

CANFIELD–P.E.R.I (Public Employee Retirees) Chapter 18 will meet at noon June 4 at the Avion Banquet Center, 2177 Western Reserve Road.

Lunch will be served at noon for a cost of $13 for paid members and $15 for others. There will be a 50/50 raffle.

The proposed changes from the State to the O.P.E.R.S. health/pension benefits will be discussed.

All public employees and retirees under O.P.E.R.S. are invited to join the Mahoning County P.E.R.I. Chapter 18 meetings. Meetings are held six times yearly to share information and update members regarding legislative changes to the health and pension benefits. The membership fee to join is $10 yearly and can be paid at the meeting.

Bed bugs topic at Wellness Wednesday program

SALEM–The Wellness Wednesday program at 6:30 p.m. June 12 in the Salem Public Library Quaker Room will feature the presentation “EEEKS! Bed Bugs!” by Stephanie Hughes, master gardener through Mahoning County Extension Service and an Ohio certified volunteer naturalist.

There are five aspects to this program and they are: 1. Identify these pests, their life history, description and biology 2. Where did the bugs come from 3. Where to look for them (where are their hiding places?) 4. The bite, the injury, prevention 5. Long term management. It is the who, what, where, when, and the why of bed bug infestation.

This program is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Registration is required and may be done online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or you may call the library at 330-332-0042 for registration assistance.

Sloppy Joes featured at Monday’s Banquet in Salem

SALEM– The Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the Banquet of Salem from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Memorial Day, at the Memorial Building. The menu will include sloppy joes, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and ice cream sundaes.
