Inspiration by Peggy Kurtz was on “Independence.” “One of the marks of maturity is the realization you aren’t dependent on others to make your dietary choices. Mature people make those choices themselves. Former president George Bush angered the vegetable growers, but declared his independence when he said that he was an adult and no one was going to make him eat broccoli anymore. Broccoli may be one of your favorites, but maybe you’ve been pressured into eating other foods, some high in calories, but low in nourishment, just to please the lunch crowd. It’s time to declare your independence by choosing to eat foods that will help you reach your diet goals, not foods that will just help you feel like you’re one of the gang. Don’t allow your host, the waiter or friends determine what you will eat. Make that decision for yourself. Determine what menu items are best for you and stick with your choice. You are an adult now. You don’t have to eat broccoli or any other food, if you don’t want to. Temptations are sure to ring your door bell, but it’s your fault if you invite them in.”
