Local students honored during Mount Union’s Recognition and Honors Convocation

ALLIANCE–The following area students were acknowledged at the University of Mount Union’s Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation held April 30:

Matthew Weingart of Salem was recognized with the The Dr. Leonard and Gretchen Epp Biology Award at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. Established in 2016 by Dr. Leonard and Gretchen Epp, this award is given to a traditional rising senior biology major who has shown exceptional motivation as a biology major and made considerable contributions to the department.

Samantha Martin of East Palestine was recognized with the The Elmer George Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a junior student majoring in psychology, neuroscience or human development and family science, with the highest grade point average.

Sarah Donkin of New Waterford was recognized with the The Stephan Family Prize for Writing at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is granted to a full-time student who has excelled in academic performance or writing for any Mount Union publication or for an outside publication.

Sarai Bodine of Salem was recognized with the The Amelia Alexander Dillow Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to the most outstanding student majoring in English and education.

Elizabeth Chaddock of Minerva was recognized with the The Dean’s Purchase Award in Art at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. Prize winning works chosen by the dean of the University become part of Mount’s permanent collection and enjoyed for many years to come.

Teresa Woerther of Alliance was recognized with the The Art Department Purchase Award at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. The Art Department Purchase Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding achievement in art during the academic year. Prize winning works will become part of the University’s permanent collection.

Tristen Brink of Alliance was recognized with the The Robert E. Hillier Family Award; The Outstanding Japanese Award at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This award is given to recognize an outstanding student in the Department of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration as a result of the investment strategies of the Student Investment Team. This prize is awarded to one or more outstanding student(s) with a major in Japanese.

Quentin Rock of Alliance was recognized with the The Judge Phillips Pre-Law Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to an outstanding pre-law student at the conclusion of his or her junior year. The selection is based on scholarship, promise of future success and character.

Adrian Vasu of Alliance was recognized with the The Physics Faculty’s Prize in Physics; The Alumni Computer Science Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to students entering their fourth year of study in physics/astronomy, in recognition of overall excellent performance in undergraduate physics/astronomy at Mount Union. This prize is awarded to one or more outstanding students majoring in computer science who have achieved junior status.

Carlee Mitchell of Alliance was recognized with the The Morgan-Song Leadership Prize in Chemistry; The Mary Frost French Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is awarded to a chemistry major who has accomplished outstanding academic excellence, demonstrated leadership qualities, and successively completed the Organic Chemistry II course. This prize is awarded to an outstanding French major.

Danny Lamb of Alliance was recognized with the The John O. Rouse International Travel Prize at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize was established in 2007 by John O. Rouse of the Class of 1950 to support a prize to a student or students planning to study in Western Europe.

Kylie Glass of Alliance was recognized with the The Hubert R. Pinney Senior Award in Economics, Accounting, and Business Administration at the 2019 Mount Union Honors Convocation. This prize is given annually to the student who has demonstrated the best overall academic record in the department.

Each year, the convocation honors graduating seniors and underclass students who have excelled academically, displayed excellent leadership skills and shown dedication to the University and community through outstanding community service initiatives.
