Tickets on sale for Peace Officers Memorial Service

COLUMBIANA — Tickets are on sale now for the annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service hosted by Fraternal Order of Police Quaker Lodge 88 at noon May 16 at the Links banquet center at Firestone Farms.

The cost is $10, with Columbiana County Municipal Court Judge Mark Frost serving as the guest speaker. Frost is retiring from the bench this year. Columbiana Police Detective Ryan Pike will read the roll call of officers who died in the line of duty for the year, with 163 officers nationwide, including four from Ohio.

Retired Salem Police Lt. Donn Beeson, who serves as vice president of FOP Quaker Lodge 88, said they hold the luncheon in remembrance of the officers who died. Pike serves as secretary, Salem Patrolman and K-9 handler Mike Garber serves as president and Deputy Willie Coleman of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office serves as trustee.

The families of Girard Police Officer Justin Leo and Youngstown Police Officer Michael Hartzell, both killed in the line of duty, are invited guests.
