Breakfast offered Sunday at Salem VFW
SALEM–The Salem VFW Post 892 Auxiliary is hosting a public breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday at the post, 496 Arch St. Haystacks or a traditional breakfast consisting of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee are available. The cost is $5 per meal.
Drive-thru chicken dinner set in North Lima
NORTH LIMA–Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., will be hosting their monthly drive-thru chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. (or until sold out) on Thursday. Dinners are $7. To reserve dinners call 330-549-2588.
Community breakfast planned in Damascus
DAMASCUS–Damascus United Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will hold their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Damascus church, 300 Valley Road.
The breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made-to-order pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The breakfast proceeds will benefit the upcoming 2019 Summer Mission Trip to Cluster 13 Ministries in Camden, N.Y.
Due to continually rising costs our Monthly Breakfast will be moving the suggested donation to $6 for adults and $4 for children under 10 beginning with the July 20 breakfast.
Preschool in the Park program begins this week
LISBON — Community Action Agency of Columbiana County’s Head Start Program will launch the Preschool in the Park program this week.
The pilot program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 12, 19 and 26 at Centennial Park in Salem. Teaching staff from Head Start will engage preschool aged children through music, movement and literacy activities.
Each week will have a different theme including insects, ocean and weather. Children in attendance will receive a snack and complete a craft to take home. This program is open to any child in Columbiana County who is 3 to 5 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. As Head Start gears up to participate in several summer community events, they have also started to enroll children for the 2019-2020 school year. Salem Library offers traveling tech program
SALEM–Learn and practice the ways to make technology a traveling friend by attending the program “Take Tech Traveling and Make Traveling Easier” presented at 6:30 p.m. June 20 in Salem Public Library’s Quaker Room. If possible bring a device to practice on as technology instructor Kathy Bennett, provides instruction and answers to questions. Seating is limited and registration is required. St. Jude festival to open with Veterans Night
COLUMBIANA–The Youngstown Air Base Honor Guard along with local scout troupes will open the St. Jude and Our Lady Lourdes Parish Festival on Veterans Night at 4:45 p.m. June 20. The Honor Guard will present the Colors and sing the National Anthem and honor all area veterans in attendance. The festival runs 5 to 10 p.m. June 20, 21 and 22 and 3 to 10 p.m. June 23, featuring Bingo from 6 to 9 p.m Friday through Sunday along with live bands, homemade food, rides, games and ending with a 5K drawing on Sunday Night. Salem Library offers Gmail introduction
SALEM–Salem Public Library is providing a series of classes to help adults learn to use the many “Google” tools readily available to help streamline areas of their computer use. The third class in the series is “Gmail” and will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. June 25 in the library’s Quaker Room. Technology instructor Kathy Bennett will show attendees the steps needed to create a gmail account, create and send email messages, and more. If possible, bring a device to practice on during class. Learn about roses at June 26 program
SALEM– Join fellow rose lovers at Salem Public Library and spend an evening learning more about these lovely flowers at 6:30 p.m. June 26 in the Quaker Room. The program will share what roses want, what they need, where they want to be, what ‘bugs’ them, and what’s new during this program presented by Marilyn McKinley – OSU Master Gardener, OSU Certified Ohio Volunteer Naturalist and OSU Volunteer Pollinator Specialist.
