Domestic violence art exhibit is Friday

ROGERS– The 4th Annual Artisans Against Domestic Violence Art Exhibit will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Whispering Pines Castle, 6295 Adams Road, funded by the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services and Ozer Ministries. The event is open to the public. There will be over 20 pieces of artwork displayed by area artists, entertainment, an interactive art station, refreshments and a Chinese auction. SCT auditions set for ‘Mamma Mia!’

SALEM–The Salem Community Theatre will hold auditions from 5 to 7 p.m. July 15 and 6 to 8 p.m. July 16 for the 2019-2020 season opener “Mamma Mia!” Ages needed for the show are 14 and older.

Prepare a one-minute section of a song of own choice. No accompanist will be provided. Prepare an a cappella number of use a phone without the voices. There will also be a short dance call so dress appropriately.

Salem trolley tours available in July

SALEM– The Salem Historical Society is offering three Underground Railroad tours on the Quakertown Trolley during July: 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. July 6 and 10 a.m. July 24. Dressed as a Salem Quaker, the docent takes passengers back in time to the late 1850’s. Following the sharing of many stories, the travelers will return to the 21st century with a better understanding of the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War.

Since the homes are private and entrance not possible, flashed on a screen inside the trolley will be slides to show pictures of the insides of the homes, Underground Railroad hiding places, and several abolitionists who lived in or visited them. The slides will also help clarify the historical information presented during the program. The tour will last approximately an hour. Cost is $15 a person and a minimum of 15 are necessary to conduct the tour. The tour is subject to cancellation if the minimum is not reached.
