East Palestine Fourth of July events announced

EAST PALESTINE — A 5K and duck derby are some of the many festivities planned for the village’s annual Fourth of July celebration in the park on Thursday.

The event is sponsored by the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, with the fireworks display at 10 p.m. provided by the East Palestine Fire Department.

Funds for the fireworks display are made possible through donations to the East Palestine Firefighter’s Association.

The festivities will begin at 8 a.m. with the alumni breakfast at the Community Center at the park. The public is welcome to attend.

A 5K Freedom Run starting at the village’s pool will begin at 8:30 a.m. The race is sponsored by the East Palestine Masonic F&AM 417 and is $20 per person. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers of the race, and also the top male and female in each age category.

The East Palestine Park Board is again sponsoring the pet parade, bike parade, kid’s games and duck derby, which will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Live music sponsored by Nate Sugar will be provided from 4-10 p.m. at the Main Stage by the tennis courts, with the fireworks display closing out the evening at 10 p.m.

A 50/50 drawing to benefit the park will also be taken, and food and craft vendors will also be available at the park throughout the day.
