Minerva man killed in crash
WEST TOWNSHIP – A Minerva man was killed early Monday after losing control of his vehicle on state Route 172.
According to the highway patrol said James A. Shorb, 32, of Minerva, was westbound on state Route 172 near Knox School Road when he traveled left of center and off the left side of the road. Once off the road the 2002 Pontiac Grand AM overturned, partially ejecting Shorb, who was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by a county coroner’s investigator. The crash at 6:31 a.m. is still under investigation. No other vehicles were involved.
The fatality was the second the patrol investigated this year, after eight in 2012. That does not include two county residents killed in Mahoning County and a 9-year-old Salem girl struck and killed on a city street.
