UAW VP responds to Feb. 14 story

In response to a story “UAW, supporters rally outside Ventra” published Feb.14, UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada issued the following statement to the Salem News on Friday: “This is to correct the record on your article “UAW, supporters rally outside Ventra” (Feb. 14, 2013). At no time in talking to your reporter did I indicate the auto manufacturers were encouraged to boycott Flex-N-Gate products.

“What I did say is that UAW members at Flex-N-Gate’s customer plants were supporting the rallies on Feb. 13, 2013 because they care about how supplier workers are being treated. Our goal is to give workers a voice at work so they can work with Flex-N-Gate to make quality parts, improve productivity and share in the company’s success with livable wages, affordable health care benefits and respect on the job.”
