Woman pleads guilty to food stamp counts

LISBON – Velinda K. Cunningham, 26, Laurel Lane, East Liverpool, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to two counts of illegal use of supplemental nutritional assistance program benefits and two counts of telecommunications fraud. She was sentenced to three years in the intervention in lieu of conviction program. She was also ordered to have no contact with the co-defendants in the case.

Cunningham was accused of allowing her food stamp card to be used by two unauthorized users to purchase up to $408 worth of food products at Walmart on Jan. 2, 2011. Then on April 9, 2011 she used her food stamp card herself to purchase $350 worth of food for one of those same men.

Aaron J. Korbel, 32, Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, stipulated to violating the terms of his probation and was sentenced to 29 days in the county jail. He was previously sentenced to four years probation with the first six months served at the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center.
