Man helping out charged with OVI
GOSHEN TOWNSHIP- A Salem man was arrested for operating a vehicle intoxicated after attempting to provide a ride home to an alleged assault victim in the early morning hours Saturday.
Frank J. Kastanek, 60, 317 N. Madison Ave., was charged with for OVI after he responded at 3:17 a.m. to pick up a West Seventh Street, Salem, woman at Beaver Creek Road and state Route 14 who had been involved in an assault report on Middletown Road at 1:13 a.m. Saturday.
According to police report, Kastanek arrived intoxicated to provide a safe ride home for the distraught woman who had driven away from an alleged assault in the 7000 block of Middletown Road. She told officers that the homeowner had choked her and then held her to the ground and tore her clothes following an argument regarding a phone call with a male friend from California. Officers did observe bruises on her arm and a tear in her shirt.
Green Township EMS responded to examine the woman, but she refused treatment. She was told to call for a ride after being found to be intoxicated and also informed that she would have to file charges against the homeowner at the Sebring court if she wished to do so.
When contacted the homeowner would not speak to police about the matter.
