Salem cops investigate gun incident

SALEM – City police are investigating an altercation involving a gun at a residence in the 200 block of West Wilson Street Tuesday evening.

Sgt. Brent Slider said Wednesday the incident was over some comments made on the Internet and he was compiling statements to forward to the prosecutor’s officer for consideration of possible criminal charges. One adult male suffered facial injuries when he was struck in the face.

Police were called to the scene at 7:32 p.m. Tuesday and when they arrived, officers stopped a vehicle leaving the rear alley behind the home and spoke to the driver, who was found to not have a firearm in his possession. The victims told police the driver had been there and tried to diffuse the situation, with the primary suspect and others accompanying him fleeing the scene.

The woman who lives at the home, her teen son and his friend, the one who suffered injuries to his face, all reported the primary suspect had pointed a handgun at them and threatened them with serious physical harm.

A fight developed with a struggle for the gun, resulting in the injury to the teen’s friend, who declined treatment.
