Rape suspect misses hearing, warrant issued
LISBON – A bench warrant was issued Friday for an East Liverpool man accused of raping a younger family member and failed to appear in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for a scheduling hearing.
Ricky Eldon Wright, 33, Cadmus Street, East Liverpool, was indicted on charges of rape and sexual battery by the grand jury in April.
At his arraignment hearing on May 16 bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety. Because of his reported financial situation, Wright requested and was granted a public defender.
However, somehow on May 16, with the assistance of a bail bondsman, Wright managed to make bail and was released from the Columbiana County Jail with orders he was to have no contact with the victim or any child under the age of 18.
His public defender, Charlie Kidder, told Judge Scott Washam Friday morning he sent a notice of Friday’s hearing to the address Wright had given. Kidder said he never heard from Wright.
Washam ordered Wright to be held on the bench warrant without bond until further order.
