Wellsville man arrested on drug charges

WELLSVILLE – A Commerce Street man was arrested on a warrant by the the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office Friday following a four-month-long investigation.

A press release issued by the sheriff’s office identified the man as Taru Smith, 36, of 906 Commerce St., who was wanted on drug possession charges.

Deputies and members of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force, county Special Response Team, BCI&I and Drug Enforcement Administration, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and Wellsville Police Department served a search warrant at the home of Smith and Kristy Dillard and found narcotics valued at $26,000.

Seized items included more than 165 grams of crack cocaine, 42 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of heroin and more than $5,000 in U.S. currency, according to the release.

Detective Lt. Brian McLaughlin said in the release further charges are pending on multiple people as the investigation continues.
