SALEM FIRE

– Firefighters responded to a home in the 800 block of Home Circle after receiving a call at 7:34 p.m. Wednesday from a concerned citizen for sparks coming from the neighbor’s chimney. Upon arrival, firefighters saw a few sparks coming from the chimney. The resident said she had just started a fire in the fireplace and there were no problems. The chimney was checked again and there were no sparks.

SALEM FIRE

– A resident in the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue called at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday to report a smoking electrical outlet. Firefighters shut off the electrical breaker at the electric panel and checked the outlet and wall with the thermal imaging camera. The temperature of the area was slightly elevated at 112 degrees and the outlet was removed to find the insulation on the wiring had melted off. The power to that area of the apartment was left off. A message was left for the landlord to contact an electrician to make necessary repairs.

SALEM FIRE

– Firefighters were called at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of East Third Street for an alleged transformer on fire. The problem was found to be two lines that were touching and arcing. Ohio Edison was notified.

– Firefighters were called at 11:10 p.m. Monday to North Lincoln Avenue near Sunset Boulevard for a one-vehicle accident where it appeared the car sloped down a hill and was resting against a fire hydrant. One patient was involved and was given treatment until an ambulance arrived and took the patient to the emergency department at Salem Regional Medical Center. The vehicle was checked for hazards but checked out okay. Firefighters remained on the scene as a precaution until a wrecker removed the car.

– A smell of natural gas was reported at 6:44 p.m. Sunday on South Lundy Avenue where an odor was detected and Columbia Gas was notified to respond. Firefighters remained on the scene until Columbia Gas arrived.

SALEM FIRE

– Firefighters responded to a report of smoke emitting from an outlet at 863 Morris Avenue at 10:50 p.m. Thursday and found two light switches in the kitchen arcing due to water leaking in the wall. The burnt switch was removed and the landlord contacted.

SALEM FIRE

– Firefighters responded at 3:44 p.m. Wednesday to a company in the 1000 block of East Salem Parkway after receiving a call for assistance from Columbia Gas for an anonymous complaint of a high level of carbon monoxide in the warehouse building. Columbia Gas had a measurable reading in the building and made contact with the owner. It was found the exhaust from a tow motor was the problem. The owner was told to stop using the tow motor until repairs are made. No employees were inside the building while the fire department and Columbia Gas were on scene.

SALEM FIRE

– Firefighters responded at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday to a possible car fire under the roof at the drive-up window at Consumers Bank on South Ellsworth Avenue. No fire was present upon arrival, but witnesses said the vehicle began smoking and they instructed the occupant to exit the vehicle. It appears there was a mechanical problem causing the excessive smoke. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
