2 Salem men hurt in Garfield Road crash
GOSHEN TWP. – The highway patrol Canfield Post is investigating a one-vehicle crash on Garfield Road Monday afternoon that critically injured a Salem man.
According to the patrol, the crash occurred between Seacrist Road and state Route 534 at 4:24 p.m. The driver, Jonathan Shellenberger, 24, and his passenger, Anthony Michael Colon, 23, both of Salem, were westbound on Garfield Road in a 1998 Chrysler Sebring when it traveled left of center and then off the right side of the roadway, striking a telephone pole on the passenger side.
Colon was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Damascus Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. He was flown by Stat Medevac to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown in critical condition.
Shellenberger was transported by Damascus EMS to St. Elizabeth’s and is in stable condition.
