SALEM

– The fire department responded to a North Lincoln Avenue home at 8:21 p.m. Saturday for a natural gas leak in the basement. All occupants were found outside the home, one of which said he was moving a gas stove when the gas line broke. Safety service personnel shut the gas off at the valve and found no evidence of the leak remaining.

– The fire department responded to a report of power lines down and arcing at South Broadway and Franklin avenues at 10:53 p.m. Friday. The lines were determined to belong to a business in the area. Power was shut off and the company’s maintenance was contacted. Ohio Edison was also contacted.

– Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Sharp Avenue at 1:19 p.m. Saturday for a report of a natural gas odor, but found nothing wrong.

Hanover Township

– The fire department was called to the Dave Thomas residence at 6701 Depot Road about 3:15 p.m. Friday after Thomas accidentally ignited the lower branches on a pine tree with a small torch while doing some work outside the house. The small tree fire caused minimal damage to the outside gutters and siding before it was extinquished using 150 gallons of water, according to Chief Frank Baker.

SALEM REPORTS

– Firefighters responded at 1:50 p.m. Thursday to the 700 block of South Ellsworth Avenue for a possible carbon monoxide problem. No hazard was found.

– Firefighters were called at 3:49 p.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of North Ellsworth Avenue for a possible stove fire. Light smoke was found inside the structure. The electric and gas were disconnected from the stove and the residence was ventilated to remove the smoke.

SALEM

– Firefighters responded at 12:26 a.m. Monday to the 900 block of South Union Avenue after a resident on Mound Street reported a neighbor’s pickup on fire at the rear of a South Union Avenue home. The engine compartment of the Chevy Silverado was fully involved, with the fire extinguished via tank water. Firefighters noticed an extension cord had been plugged into the truck that may have caused ignition of the fire. The breaker that ran the outlet the cord was plugged into had tripped. Damage to the insured vehicle was estimated at $10,200. A 2006 Chevy Malibu also in the driveway sustained light damage from radiant heat, with damage estimated at $1,000.

Columbiana

– The fire department went to Joshua Dixon Elementary at 12:49 p.m. Sunday and found the alarm system was malfunctioning. At 8:56 p.m. a firefighter went to a check on a CO2 detector on Bell Avenue.
