Wellsville man accused of beating convenience store owner last week bound over to grand jury

LISBON – A Wellsville man accused of beating the owner of a convenience store while attempting to rob it last week will now have his case heard a grand jury.

Bryant M. Allen, 23, Independence Square, Wellsville, was bound over to the Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing in county Municipal Court on Thursday.

According to court documents, Allen went into For Your Convenience on March 16 and assaulted Laddie Wallick with a tire iron, an incident which was caught on store video. When Wellsville police arrived, they reportedly found Wallick bleeding heavily from his face.

Allen was in court with defense attorney Rob Bricker, who told Judge Carol Robb his client has been forthcoming and is requesting a chance to begin some type of substance abuse rehabilitation immediately while in the county jail.

Bond was continued at $50,000 cash or surety. Two women, including one Allen identified as his mother, were in the courtroom during the hearing and spoke briefly with Allen following the hearing.

A June 26 pretrial was set for Allen on an unrelated criminal trespassing charge. According to court documents, Allen was found at an Independence Square apartment on March 17 after he was served a warning against criminal trespassing on March 14.
