Widow sues for husband’s worker’s comp benefits

LISBON – Lori A. Bentz, the widow of James E. Bentz Jr., filed a workers’ compensation appeal Friday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court.

The lawsuit against James Bentz’ former employer, Pioneer Pottery Inc. of East Liverpool, claims he died from silicosis, which was accelerated by his exposure to toxic substances while at work. The lawsuit further claims Lori Bentz was wholly dependent on her husband for support at the time of his death on April 12, 2010.

She reportedly filed a workers’ compensation claim, but was denied the benefits in 2012. She later appealed her decision twice and then filed a workers’ compensation appeal with the court in 2013, which she voluntarily dismissed last year. However, she has now refiled the same claim demanding a right to her husband’s benefits.
