SALEM FIRE DEPARTMENT
– Firefighters responded to East Third Street for a fire at 12:13 p.m. Saturday, finding a woman trying to put out burning mulch with a rake. She said they had a cookout the previous night and dumped the ashes in the mulch bed. Firefighters used water to extinguish the fire. They tried to get more information, but the woman fled the scene.
– An employee of a business in the 200 block of East Second Street at the Broadway Plaza reported at 12:08 p.m. Saturday that water was leaking in the bathroom. The water was determined to be leaking from the back flow valve on the water line. Firefighters shut off the back flow valve and the valve on the main water supply line, telling the worker to contact a plumber to replace the back flow valve.
– Firefighters and police responded to the 300 block of Mullins Avenue at 6:08 a.m. Saturday for a smoke investigation and found it to be steam coming from a pond.
– A fire alarm activated at Timberlanes, 544 E. Pershing St., at 1:50 a.m. Saturday. No smoke was coming from the building upon arrival. Firefighters could not reach a keyholder and made entry through a window to check the interior, finding nothing. The fire alarm was reset and the window put back in place.
