Assault near Wellsville probed
WELLSVILLE – The county sheriff’s department is investigating an assault that occurred Wednesday morning outside the village on state Route 39 near the area commonly known as the Springs. According to reports, Paige Delahoussaye, Avondale Street, East Liverpool, told deputies she was at the Springs when two men assaulted her, then fled in a yellow Cavalier into the 18th Street Heights area.
When deputies responded, they reported seeing a vehicle matching that description with two male occupants headed north toward East Liverpool on state Route 7 and began a pursuit with lights activated.
The vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed, deputies reported, saying it went across lanes and the rumble strip, passing three vehicles and a semi truck before turning into Shadyside Road, where it stopped.
One of the two men in the vehicle, David Heddleston, no age or address listed, had a detainer placed on him by the adult parole department after he reportedly admitted using drugs, deputies reported. The other man was not identified in reports, which did not indicate if any charges were filed.
A spokesman at the sheriff’s office also was uncertain late yesterday afternoon if any arrests were made in the incident.
