Glasgow couple arrested after raid bound over to grand jury

LISBON – A Glasgow couple arrested after the Columbiana County Drug Task Force last week both appeared before Judge Carol Robb Thursday in Columbiana County Municipal Court on non-drug-related charges.

Michael F. Byers, 31, Johnson Road, Lisbon, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the county grand jury on a rape charge.

Byers is accused of forcing himself on a woman sleeping in a tent in Yellow Creek Township. He also allegedly threatened her during the attack. His bond was continued at $100,000 cash or surety.

Michelle M. Byers, 35, Johnson Road, Lisbon, was bound over on a charge of having weapons while under a disability after waiving her right to a preliminary hearing. Her bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

According to court records, when the drug task force, U.S. marshals and county sheriff’s office deputies served a search warrant at the Byers’ home on Johnson Road, they reportedly located shotguns and a handgun in the home. Michelle Byers is not permitted to have guns after a 2012 felony conviction for conveying drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a detention facility in 2010.

The home is reportedly the residence of the Byerses and Melissa Delauder. At the time of the raid, Lt. Brian McLaughlin, director of the DTF, reported drugs valued at $7,500 on the street were found in the home. Agents found more than 60 grams of crack cocaine, more than eight grams of heroin, digital scales with residue of drugs, more than $3,000 and packaging material. No drug-related charges have yet been filed.
