LISBON – The Columbiana County Common Pleas Court grand jury issued four open indictments and 19 secret indictments this week. The jury also declined to indict on one case it was presented.

The secret indictments will be announced as they are served. The open indictments are as follows:

– Joshua L. Bable, 34, North Front Street, Negley, is charged with safecracking and theft. Bable is accused of breaking into the homes of Steve Kwasnik, Carlisle Road, Lisbon, on July 29 and Ross Ferguson, Morris Road, Lisbon, on July 28. Additionally he is accused of tampering with a safe or vault belonging to Ferguson.

According to court documents, Ferguson had video surveillance, which showed Bable looking into the windows of his home, entering through a window by removing an air conditioner and loading Ferguson’s firearms into a car.

– Paula J. McFarland, 36, Teegarden Road, Salem, is charged with theft for allegedly attempting to push a fully loaded cart out of the Salem Walmart without paying on Jan. 21. When McFarland ran, store employees reportedly recovered the cart, which contained 81 items valued at $1,538.

– Michael Frederick Byers, 31, Johnson Road, Lisbon, is charged with rape after he allegedly threatened and then forced a woman to have sex with him in a tent in Yellow Creek Township on June 1.

– Jason E. Vantilburg, 42, Kent Street, East Liverpool, is charged with robbery for allegedly pushing Lyle Foster to the ground injuring him at Gina’s Drive Through while forcing a female clerk to open the register for him on July 29. Vantilburg then fled toward Elmwood Street.
