POLICE REPORTS
SALEM
— Jamie Roth, of Homeworth, reported at 10:41 a.m. Monday that she was driving east on West State Street when another vehicle exited the Speedway gas station in the 100 block in front of her, causing her to brake. She thought she felt a minor collision to her front end so she pulled into the next parking lot while the driver of the other vehicle left the scene without giving any information. The report said it appeared the other driver would have been at fault for failure to yield but there was no visible damage to the Roth vehicle.
— Police were called at 10:26 a.m. Monday to the 1200 block of East Pershing Street where a woman reported her husband and her 21-year-old son got into an argument over the son playing his music too loud. No physical violence occurred. She said her son threatened to kil her and her husband. Officers spoke with the person, who was extremely angry and confirmed the argument was over music, with nothing physical occurring. Fire department first responders and KLG Ambulance responded to evaluate the person’s mental state. He refused medical treatment and said all he wanted was a cup of coffee and a cigarette. He left the premises of his own free will.
— A woman reported finding a set of car keys sitting on a rock outside an insurance office in the 900 block of East State Street at 8:56 a.m. Monday. The keys were placed in the police lost and found.
— A domestic dispute was reported at 6:23 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Union Avenue where contact was attempted at the residence but was unsuccessful. The female involved worked at a local business so officers responded there and she advised that she and her boyfriend had an argument over a set of car keys but nothing physical occurred.
— Loud persons were reported at 2:01 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of North Ellsworth Avenue. No noise violation was observed upon police arrival. The female resident said her children were just getting ready to go to bed.
— A man came to the station at 11:48 p.m. Sunday to report his roommate had someone over that he did not want there. Police told him his roommate had the right to have guests over, then officers responded to the 100 block of West Third Street and made contact with a male who voluntarily left for the night.
— An officer at 9:38 p.m. Sunday noticed a suspicious vehicle in a closed business in the 200 block of West State Street. The driver, who was identified, told the officer he was waiting to pick up someone who was dropping off a rental vehicle.
— A suspicious vehicle was reported in a parking lot at 9:23 p.m. Sunday at Arch Street and Newgarden Avenue. The vehicle was unoccupied and nothing appeared out of order.
— A neighbor dispute was reported at 9:19 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of West Wilson Street where people were having a verbal altercation but nothing physical occurred. They were both told to stay away from each other.
— Police were called at 9:08 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of Hawley Avenue for a well-being check on a female. A man said she made suicidal threats and cut her neck. Officers talked to the female who said she had no thoughts of harming herself. The report said she did not have any marks on her neck and appeared to be ok.
— Police were called for a domestic at 8:25 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Hawley Avenue where a woman said her soon-to-be ex entered her residence and they got into a verbal altercation. She told police her ex stabbed her with a serving fork earlier in the evening and she had a minor cut to her hand. Officers spoke with the male who said he was just dropping off an item to a juvenile inside the residence and they got into a verbal altercation. He said the female grabbed the serving fork and then they wrestled for it and she actually stabbed herself with the fork and he left the residence. She was told the incident would be reviewed by a prosecutor.
— An officer responded at 8:12 p.m. Sunday to the area of Centennial Park/East Pershing Street for a threat report. A man whose last known address was Third Street reported his ex-girlfriend said she was going to have her current boyfriend come to town to beat him up. Contact will be made with the person and the dangers will be explained and that someone will go to jail if the assault happens.
— A suspicious male was reported at 7:22 p.m. Sunday at Wendy’s, 2388 E. State St., where the caller said a person had been in the bathroom for half an hour and there was a concern due to his behavior. Officers made contact with the male and he was told about the complaint. He said he has some mental issues and was waiting for someone to pick him up. Officers dealt with him several times throughout the day and were aware of the situation. He said his ride was 20 minutes away. Officers advised him to call the police if his ride doesn’t pick him up and they’ll get him a cab.
— Police at 6:30 p.m. Sunday addressed a report on harassment from a woman who said someone was calling her previous employer saying that she was observed in a parking lot doing drugs. She was able to give officers a name and phone number to contact the person making the allegations and officers said contact would be made with the suspect to explain the employer could file telecommunications charges. The address was listed as the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue.
— A suspicious person possibly smoking illegal drugs was reported at 5:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of East State Street. Officers made contact with a male who said his ride was over an hour away and he was waiting in the parking lot for them. He gave verbal consent for officers to search his belongings and nothing illegal was found. He was told to stay off private property while waiting for his ride.
— A report of criminal trespass was reported at 5:12 p.m. Sunday on Pennsylvania Avenue where a person was dropping off tree limbs and brush on a property clearly marked with no trespassing signs. The person was contacted and told he could face charges for trespassing if his action continues.
— A loud exhaust was reported at 5 p.m. Sunday in the area of East Pershing Street and South Madison Avenue. A man said he was just getting his hot rod ready for the Halloween parade. He was told to keep the noise and revving of his engine to a minimum to avoid further disturbance.
— A domestic dispute was reported at 4:26 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Ohio Avenue at the rear of a residence. Police found no one at the residence but located a set of keys locked in the door and removed them. Police were able to identify the people involved and spoke to them after a family member made contact and had them return to Ohio Avenue. They said they had an argument and all was fine. The keys were returned.
— Police were called at 3:49 p.m. Sunday to Walmart on East State Street for a report of a suspicious person dancing in the parking lot. Officers made contact with the person who said he was waiting for his wife to pick him up. The manager from a gas station said the male had taken some items without paying for them, but said she wouldn’t press charges if he paid for the items, which he did. He was told he’s not permitted back at the gas station or he’ll face criminal trespass charges.
— Police received a call at 1:48 p.m. Sunday for a dog threatening a person in the 1400 block of Cleveland Street. When police arrived, the dog had gone home and the caller said the problem was ok and she had resumed her chores around the yard. She did not want to pursue the matter but pointed out the house of the dog. An officer talked to the resident and advised about the dog at large ordinance.
— Police responded to a parking complaint in the 900 block of Summit Street at 1:46 p.m. Sunday. The driver moved the vehicle after being told about parking in a no parking zone.
— An altercation was reported at noon Sunday between a landlord and tenant in the 600 block of North Howard Avenue where a woman said a person arrived and demanded rent money and then grabbed her shirt and demanded the money. The incident is under investigation.
— Barking dogs were reported at 12:03 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Fourth Street where police found two dogs not barking but outside. A male resident said he would take them inside to alleviate the problem. He was told about the ordinance for barking dogs.
— Ashley Vanderhoff, 27, whose last known address was 1247 Maple St., was taken into custody on a warrant for failure to appear on a theft charge after police were called at 11 a.m. Sunday to investigate a fight in the area of South Lundy Avenue and Columbia Street involving a woman and a male known to her. Officers were told the female had a gun in her purse and that there was a physical altercation in front of Sparkle Market. Officers found the couple in the 500 block of Columbia Street and during the investigation learned that the female, Vanderhoff, had an active warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers also found that she was in possession of a firearm that was removed from her purse with charges pending. Upon checking, police learned the weapon had been reported stolen, which is under investigation.
LISBON
— Donna Mineard reported at 1:34 a.m. Monday that Mike Skidmore came to her residence and woke up the family, but he left when she threatened to call the police. She wants police to advise Skidmore never to come back.
— Police were called to the county mental health center at 12:20 p.m. Friday to assist with a patient who needed an emergency psychological evaluation and was being transferred to a local hospital for examination.
COLUMBIANA
— A woman reported anonymously at 12:23 p.m. Sunday two men had gotten out of their vehicles in the traffic circle and were about to fight. Police checked but did not see anyone.
— Elaine Pedro of Columbiana was arrested at 3:14 p.m. Sunday for failure to file city income tax for 2011 through 2015.
— Brookie Hartley, East Friend Street, reported at 4:32 p.m. Sunday people were parking in front of her garage and she could not get in touch with her landlord. Police told the owner of the vehicle to move the vehicle.
