SALEM

— An officer on patrol at 1:59 a.m. Tuesday assisted an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper on a traffic stop in the 100 block of West State Street.

— Officers and fire department personnel responded to a lift assist at 1:02 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Park Avenue. An officer retrieved a key from the victim’s relative up the street, but the doors were all locked from the inside. The relative voluntarily broke a window to unlock the door for first responders to gain entry. The person inside was unharmed and declined further treatment after being assisted.

— A woman and three additional people reported at 12:59 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Third Street that a known female has been harassing her via text message and social media. She said the suspect threatened to make false reports of property damage and threatened to contact her place of employment to lodge false allegations. The woman requested no further action other than to document it. She said they were going to seek a restraining order against the female.

— A man came to the station at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday to report telecommunications harassment, saying he recently moved out of a residence but his old roommate has been making threatening phone calls. An officer made contact with the female who said she had been calling because he has some of her personal belongings. She was told it’s a civil issue and was advised of her options. Both were told to cease contact with each other.

— An officer in the 100 block of Woodland Avenue stopped a vehicle at 10:43 p.m. Monday for a moving offense. The driver received a verbal warning. A search was conducted and nothing of interest was located in the vehicle.

— A caller in the 1000 block of Franklin Avenue reported a fireworks complaint at 9:51 p.m. Monday, joining multiple callers who reported the issue. The one caller believed shots were being fired in the city. The callers were told a company in Perry Township was having a conference with Phantom Fireworks and they set off a fireworks display.

— Police and fire department personnel responded at 7:51 p.m. Monday to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue for a report of a possible natural gas leak inside a residence. Firefighters investigated the odor and contacted Columbia Gas to respond to the scene.

— A man on Vine Avenue spoke with an officer at 7:35 p.m. Monday about a concern over a prior complaint he was involved in and whether or not it was being handled in a fair and impartial manner. The officer told him his concern would be forwarded to the investigating officer. The officer said the matter would be checked on to assure there were no problems.

— A woman in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue told police about a possible scam, reporting at 7:19 p.m. Monday that she keeps receiving letters in the mail from some agency about sending them money. She advised she continually tells them she is not interested and they continue to try to get her to send money. Officers attempted to contact the agency with a phone number provided from the letter, but the phone number was not a working number and they couldn’t make contact with anyone.

— A caller at 7:15 p.m. Monday reported a reckless operator in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue. An officer stopped the vehicle and advised the driver of the local traffic laws following the driver’s denial of the claim.

— A woman on Prospect Street reported at 6:29 p.m. Monday that she was having issues with her grandchild’s father, even though she had full custody. She showed officers several harassing text messages received which she did not want. Her lawyer has been aware of the situation. They needed to contact her attorney if they needed to speak to her. An officer made contact with the other parties involved and told them to stop contact with the woman. They were told they could face criminal charges. The male wanted to know how he was supposed to see his daughter. He was told to speak to an attorney and go to court for custody/visitation issues.

— Police responded at 6:21 p.m. Monday to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue for a neighbor dispute. A woman said a new neighbor recently moved into the apartment complex and she was having trouble with the person. She advised he made several advances towards her after she told him she only wanted to be neighbors and nothing more. She just wanted a report on file.

— A woman reported at 6:19 p.m. Monday that she received a voicemail stating she was going to be served papers. There was a call back number but it was disconnected and she thought it was a scam. Officers attempted to make contact with the company but were unable to contact anyone. She was told to call police if they call back.

— A caller at 6:06 p.m. Monday asked police to check the well-being of a person in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Sixth Street. Officers made contact with the person who had fallen asleep, then determined the person was not valid to drive. The owner responded to get the vehicle and the battery was dead, so the owner had a family member respond with jumper cables.

— A caller at 6:05 p.m. Monday spoke to an officer concerning recent suspicious activities at the rear of several buildings in the 500 block of East State Street. The information was forwarded to the Columbiana County Drug Task Force.

— Edward Kane, 52. of North Ellsworth Avenue, was cited for failure to yield after he failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of West Eighth Street and North Ellsworth Avenue at 4:57 p.m. Monday, causing a northbound vehicle driven by Meghan Perry, 36, of West Fourth Street, to strike his vehicle. After the collision, both vehicles ran off of the road and struck a stop sign. The Perry vehicle then slid into a parked vehicle in the Gordon Brothers parking lot. The parked vehicle was owned by Gordon Brothers. Perry and three juvenile passengers, ages 2, 7 and 9 years old, were all transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT Ambulance for non-incapacitating injuries. Two other passengers were not injured.

— A driver at 4:19 p.m. Monday reported a hit/skip at the intersection of South Howard Avenue and West Pershing Street. He said he was driving south on Howard when struck by a westbound vehicle on West Pershing Street. The other vehicle did not yield the right of way at the stop sign and then fled the scene.

— A man at 3:13 p.m. Monday told officers someone had gotten his debit card information and was purchasing stuff using his card. He already took care of everything with his bank.

PERRY TWP.

— Steven Calhoun, 59, of Toronto, was cited for failure to control after his northbound vehicle failed to stop and drove off the end of the road on the U.S. Route 62/state Route 45 bypass interchange at 9:44 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene after sustaining disabling damage.

— While on patrol at 7:11 p.m. Saturday, an officer found a blue glass pipe used to smoke marijuana laying on the road in the 1300 block of West State Street.

— Preston Ward, 26, whose last known address was Hawk Road, East Rochester, was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence and marked lanes after a traffic stop at 3:15 a.m. Saturday on Newgarden Road. His vehicle was towed and he was later released to a friend.

— Police assisted Salem units with a reported fight at Fernangles Bar, standing by until no longer needed.

— Police were called at 11:50 p.m. Friday to the 400 block of Benton Road for a report of an argument in the parking lot. A female said the argument was over her boyfriend taking her cell phone. She was unwilling to give further information.

— A caller at 9:26 p.m. Friday reported a reckless operator driving east toward the township on U.S. Route 62 near Damascus. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Police located a suspicious vehicle on the side of the road on U.S. Route 62 at 9:18 p.m. Friday. No one was found during a search of the surrounding area. Salem Police were notified due to recent break-ins at the Industrial Park. Township officers stood by until Salem units also searched the area.

LISBON

— Police were called the county juvenile court for a 16-year-old in school there had run away at 9:40 a.m. Monday. The officer was later notified the parents had custody of the teenager.

— Police were called to county juvenile at 12:34 p.m. Monday in regard to a youth in school there who was acting delusional and saying people were coming to get her. The officer remained until an ambulance arrived to transport her to a local hospital to be examined.

— Christine Schreffler, North Market Street, reported someone went through her car Saturday night and they also stole a phone charger from the vehicle of her sister-in-law, who lives next door. Other neighbors reported someone tried to gain entry to their vehicles but were unsuccessful.

— Randy Crothers, North Market Street, reported his wallet was stolen from his vehicle Saturday night.

— Police were called to the Methodist Church area at 12:51 p.m. Sunday, where Clarissa Cooley-Jordan reported being followed around town by Jay Farrow. Police located Farrow and told him he was no longer to have any contact with Cooley-Jordan, and then the officer gave him a ride home.

— A caller reported there was a suspicious white Jeep at the CAA homeless shelter on Maple Street at 10:46 p.m. Friday, but the Jeep was gone by the time an officer arrived.

— Jacob Bickley’s wallet was found in the Smith Oil parking lot on Friday and $60 in cash was missing.

— Sharon Cope of the county fair board reported Saturday a section of siding was ripped from the rear of a building and the building where campers were stored was also found unlocked.

— A caller reported someone may be trying to break into the CAA homeless shelter on Maple Street at 11:46 p.m. Thursday. They said someone in a white Jeep had been driving around for the past several days, and that night someone was banging on the back door. Police continued to check on the shelter the rest of the shift.
