SHERIFF’S OFFICE

— Ryan Cunningham of Sturch Contracting of Steubenville reported at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday someone broke into a vacant home on Spring Valley Road in Wayne Township. Deputies found the front door of the house open, but no one was inside and there was no damage found. Cunningham said when they arrived the man door to the garage was open and when they opened the front door they heard footsteps upstairs and someone yell, “I just needed to use the bathroom.” The contractors ran outside and locked themselves in the car until deputies arrived.

— Doreen Zeigler, Leslie Road, Lisbon, asked deputies to come check on her husband at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday. Both Zeigler and and the man were standing at the paper mill next door when deputies arrived. Zeigler told deputies the man has been talking to people who were not there and shot into the woods at invisible people with his 22-caliber rifle. She was frightened so she left and called deputies. The man was paranoid, uncooperative and was rattling law-type jargon at deputies attempting to find out basic information from him. He would not say where his rifle was hidden and was upset about needing to go to the hospital, first attempting to throw his wife’s pickup truck keys into the woods and then give them to a worker at the paper mill who did not know him. He was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital, where hospital staff admitted the man is paranoid telling them he is allergic to Wifi and EKGs. However, he refused treatment and because he was not suicidal or homicidal, the hospital staff allowed him to leave.

— Sheri Egli, South Bandy Road, Homeworth, reported at 9:10 a.m. Monday her yellow labrador went missing on April 29. The dog is chipped and had tags on its collar. Egli searched extensively for the dog, put out flyers and used social media but did not find it. She now has learned another dog of the same breed also went missing in her same area 10 days ago. She decided to file a report in case her dog was stolen.

— Sean Hanna, Avon, Ohio, a sales representative from Team Sledd, reported at 1:34 p.m. Monday the owner of the Homeworth Pantry, Shelley Edwards, passed two checks, one for $9,457 and another for $3,715, to Team Sledd that were returned for insufficient funds.
