‘John Doe’ charged with Salem break-in

SALEM — A man identified only as John Doe will face arraignment Monday on charges of burglary, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after allegedly trying to break into a residence on East Third Street Thursday night.

Police were called to the 800 block at 8:22 p.m. for a breaking and entering in progress and located the male, who was detained but was not able to be identified. He was taken into custody as John Doe, then was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment of self-inflicted wounds.

Sgt. Danny Green said the man was released from the hospital Friday and taken to the Columbiana County jail and still had not been positively identified. He was injured when he punched through the front door window of a residence while trying to get inside. Green also said he was intoxicated and not listening to officer commands.

According to online county Municipal Court records, John Doe is scheduled for arraignment Monday morning on all four charges. The burglary is a felony charge.
