SALEM FIRE CALLS

— Firefighters responded Monday afternoon for a fire alarm at Salem Regional Medical Center, with a light haze of smoke reported in the mechanical room. Construction workers were welding steel columns on the exterior of the building in the area of the smoke. The area of the exterior and the interior were both checked with nothing found. A sheet of drywall was removed around the welding area and nothing was found. The haze cleared. No more problems were detected and maintenance was advised to monitor the area.

— The fire department responded at 9:47 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of Hickory Lane for a fire alarm activation. The homeowner opened the front door and said he did not have a fire. He thought he hit a wrong button on the alarm panel.
