SALEM

— Police responded to the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 12:59 p.m. Friday where a mail carrier advised there was a syringe on the side of the walk. Police located it and it was disposed of.

— At 1:17 p.m. Friday, police responded to the 200 block of Jennings Avenue where the complainant advised his girlfriend was getting possible threatening text messages. Police didn’t see anything threatening.

— Police responded to the 300 block of West State Street at 2:46 p.m. Friday for a suspicious person and were unable to locate anyone.

— At 6:48 p.m. Friday, Police responded to the 1000 block of East Third Street for a well-being check and everything was OK.

— Police received a complaint an station at 7:44 p.m. Friday from a person who had been a patient on the hospital and didn’t feel her care was acceptable. She was advised it was a civil issue.

— At 8 a.m. Friday, police responded to the U.S. 62/45 bypass to assist Perry Township police with a one-vehicle accident that caused serious injury to the driver who was life-flighted from the scene. Police provided traffic control and cited a driver who went around emergency vehicles. The highway patrol handled the crash.

— At 10:15 a.m. Friday, police responded to the 800 block of West Pershing Street to assist the Columbiana County Drug Task Force and stood by.

— Police responded to the West State Street and Benton Road area at 2:39 p.m. Thursday for a report of reckless operation and were unable to locate the vehicle.

— At 4:10 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 900 block of Franklin Avenue where a large tree branch was on power lines but still attached to the tree and Ohio Edison was advised.

— Police responded to the 200 block of South Lundy Avenue at 4:08 a.m. Thursday where wires were sparking and the fire department cordoned off the area and the street department was enroute.

— At 5:22 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 400 block of Continental Drive and assisted the Columbiana County sheriff in taking a man into custody, but the residence was checked and he was not there.

— At 5:44 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 1200 block of Orchard Bend Drive where the complainant advised the front license plate was stolen from their vehicle.

— Police received a complaint on station at 7 p.m. Thursday about suspicious activity in the 800 block of West Pershing Street. Information was gathered.

— At 7:45 p.m. Thursday, police made a traffic stop at East State Street and Vine Avenue and the driver, Cathy D. Bowman, 157 N. Madison Ave., was cited for driving under suspension and a passenger, who had been seen operating the vehicle earlier, John W. Jarvis, of the same address, was taken into custody on a warrant for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and taken to the county jail.

— At 7:47 p.m. Thursday, an officer assisting in a traffic stop in the 700 block of East State Street located a syringe on the sidewalk and disposed of it at the station.

— At 8 p.m. Thursday, police patrolling in the 300 block of South Ellsworth Avenue observed a man and woman near the road arguing. It was verbal only and domestic violence laws were explained to them.

— At 9:24 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 400 block of Franklin Avenue for a neighbor dispute over their dogs. Both parties were advised of the consequences if they continued.

— Police responded to the 800 block of West Pershing Street at 9:24 p.m. Thursday to assist the drug task force with an investigation. Police also assisted with an investigation in the 700 block of Arch Street at 9:33 p.m.

— Police responded to the South Lincoln Avenue and Franklin Avenue area for a report of reckless operation at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, but were unable to locate anything.

— Police responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 12:03 a.m. Friday for a neighbor complaint, but there were negative results.

— Police responded to the 500 block of East Sixth Street at 12:16 a.m. Friday where two male juveniles wearing hooded sweatshirts attempted to break into a parked vehicle. The juveniles fled on foot and police were unable to locate them.

— At 2:332 p.m. Friday, police in the 500 block of Franklin Avenue observed two intoxicated males walking and one fell and hit his head. Firefighters and an ambulance responded the person was taken to the hospital. The other was given a courtesy ride to the hospital.

— Police responded to the 200 block of Apple Street at 11:54 a.m. Friday for a report of a toddler in the middle of the road and no parent around. The parent said they went to the bathroom and when they came out they thought the child was hiding somewhere inside until someone knocked on their door with the child.

— At 11:35 a.m. Friday, police responded to the 1200 block of East 11th Street after a mail carrier advised of observing a large amount of blood on the porch of a residence and was unable to make contact. The homeowner said their neighbor injured himself and knocked on their door for assistance and was driven to get medical attention. They were OK.

— Police responded to the 1300 block of West State Street and the state Route 45 intersection at 9:30 a.m. Friday where a vehicle reportedly struck a pole and there was entrapment. The driver, Robert A. Stein, 563 W. School St., Salem, was eastbound on U.S. 62 and went off the right side of the road and struck a pole. He was extricated and life-flighted from the scene. Sinsley’s Towing removed the vehicle. The highway patrol is handling the investigation and the Salem Police Department assisted at the scene.

— At 9:47 p.m. Thursday, police made a traffic stop at U.S. 62 and state Route 45. The vehicle was searched with permission and Chad Miller of North Lima was issued two minor misdemeanor citations for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

— Police responded to the 300 block of Lake Avenue at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of a breaking and entering and located four people looking at a house because they were interested in buying it.

— At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 1900 block of Cunningham Road where a tree had been removed from the road.
