SALEM FIRE CALLS
— Firefighters responded to the Holiday Inn Express parking lot for a report of a vehicle on fire at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, finding a small fire at the rear of a pickup, along with a landscape shrub burning. The fire was extinguished and the person responsible for the vehicle was notified. A police report said the driver reported his employer rented the truck from another company and the truck had an electrical short that could never be found. The damage was contained to the tail light area. No other vehicles were damaged.
— The fire department responded at 9:22 p.m. Monday to the 900 block of South Ellsworth Avenue where a transformer was arcing. Perry Township fire department had been responding, but the problem was found inside the city limits. Ohio Edison found broken lines were not energized but were laying on hot wires. A repair crew responded and barricades were set up to shut down access to the road until repairs could be made. The police department handled several alarm calls at the time due to the power being out.
