LISBON — A Wellsville woman was charged in Columbiana County Municipal Court with trying to smuggle drugs into the county jail while her boyfriend was an inmate.

Wendi R. Hunley, 42, of Oak Drive, was charged in court with one count of smuggling contraband into the jail, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23.

The alleged crime occurred on June 22, when Hunley showed up at the jail with a container of contact lens fluid for Christopher Bowersock, who was an inmate. Jail staff suspected something was up and found an orange strip and orange tablet hidden in the container. The items were sent away to be tested and came back positive for buprenorphine.

In other action, Sara J. Kuhlman, 38, West Salem Street, Columbiana, pleaded innocent to charges of OVI and failing to stay within marked lines, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled Sept. 14. Kuhlman was cited by Columbiana police following a traffic stop at 11:52 p.m. Aug. 15.

Joshua R. Elerick, 23, Ridge Street, Leetonia, pleaded innocent to assault, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5. Elerick reportedly assaulted Ken Bratt at the Leetonia Eagles on Thursday.

Hope M. Steed, 20, West Pershing Street, Salem, pleaded innocent to receiving stolen property, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25. Steed is accused of being in possession of a silver necklace stolen from Carly Williams of Salem on Aug. 1. Steed was accused by witness of stealing the $104 necklace and returned it when confronted, but it was broken in half.

Terry A. Hughes, 38, Clarkson Road, Rogers, was bound over to the county grand jury for possible indictment on a receiving stolen property charge. Hughes reportedly led law enforcement on a 5-mile chase on Aug. 2 that ended when he lost sheriff’s deputies on Greenwood Road, but not before they determined one of the licenses plates was stolen from East Palestine.

Hughes was also fined $150 on unrelated charges of having an open container of beer in a motor vehicle and obstructing police business following a traffic stop in East Palestine on Feb. 17. He received credit for eight days already served in the county jail.

Rebecca S. Dickey, 48, Chestnut Street Extension, Leetonia, has been charged with felonious assault, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23. Dickey reportedly punched a police officer several times in the leg when he was called to her home and then tried to bite the officer in the leg as well.

Ronald L. Smalley, 57, Summit Street, Salem, was fined $150 after being found guilty of domestic violence, with credit received for two days spent in the county jail on the charge. The assault occurred on Aug. 14 at the Salem home he shared with his girlfriend. Smalley reportedly struck her in the face with an open hand after she would not give him the car keys because he had been drinking.

Dillon J. Dellapenna, 21, Moore Street, East Liverpool, was sentenced to 75 more days in the county jail and ordered to make $306 in restitution to the jail after pleading guilty to criminal damaging charges. On July 13 and while a jail inmate, Dellapenna broke two sprinkler heads, a microwave oven and pulled down a shelf.

Rusty R. Altman, 45, Cream Ridge Road, Lisbon, was charged with aggravated menacing, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 4. Altman’s aunt videotaped him on Aug. 13 saying he has a list of people he wants to kill with a gun, and the list includes some sheriff’s deputies.

Colston R. Casto, 24, of Waynesburg, was fined $695 after being found guilty of OVI, a tail light violation and not wearing a seat belt. Casto can avoid going to jail for three days by completing driver intervention classes. Casto was cited following a traffic stop on U.S. Route 30 in West Township at 11:43 p.m. Dec. 5.

Andrea M. Kinney, 48, East Sixth Street, Salem, was fined $250 after being found guilty of OVI and driving left of center. Her license was also suspended for six months, except for going to and from work. She can avoid going to jail by completing driver intervention classes. Kinney was cited following a traffic stop on U.S. Route 62 in Knox Township at 10:58 p.m. April 9.
