Beloit man charged with felony for taking vehicle without permission

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP– A Beloit man has been charged with a felony after allegedly taking the vehicle of another resident at his home.

Jacob Carter, 21, Sixth Street, Beloit, was arrested at his home at 6:45 p.m. Monday on warrant for a fourth-degree felony count of receiving stolen property and cited for driving under suspension following an incident at 4:58 a.m. May 9 where another resident reported he had woken to find his vehicle missing. He said Carter and another male individual had been there when he went to bed, but were no longer there. Officers also found no signs of forced entry into the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle said he would not press charges if the vehicle were returned in a timely manner; however, the vehicle was not returned and a warrant was issued. An officer then observed Carter driving the vehicle in question in the area and a patrolling officer found the vehicle parked at the Beloit home at approximately 9:42 a.m. May 9. The vehicle’s owner was then informed of the vehicle being returned.
